Nestled in the Andean heights of Colombia's Nariño department lies the picturesque town of Buesaco, renowned for its role in coffee innovation. Here, Promotora Cafe de Altura, in collaboration with over 300 dedicated smallholder farmers, spearheads a commitment to excellence and sustainability in coffee production. By incentivizing farmers with premiums and support programs, they encourage practices that enhance quality while protecting the environment, notably avoiding chemicals like glyphosate.
Among their offerings is a remarkable decaffeinated coffee sourced from farms surrounding the majestic Galeras Volcano. This coffee undergoes meticulous Ethyl Acetate (EA) processing, ensuring a minimum decaffeination level of 97% while preserving rich flavors.
Despite historical challenges, such as serving as a corridor for illicit trade routes, Nariño's resilient farmers thrive, making the region a respected hub of coffee innovation. Their unwavering dedication, combined with the cooperative's commitment to quality, elevates Buesaco's reputation as a beacon of excellence in the global coffee industry.
